Let’s look into the process in the months from March through May.

Step 1: Mowing The Lawn

This is the time when grass is slowly turning green. Mow it and remove one-third of the leaves to give space for new ones to grow. The height of the mowing grass should be 2 to 3 inches. Hike it to 4 when lawns are shady.

Step 2: Applying Fertilizers

After three weeks of green grass, begin the fertilizing process. You only need to add nitrogen fertilizer. 1 pound for 1000 sq ft. Test your soil to determine the required nutrients.

Step 3: Watering

Spring is the time when the St. Augustine grass is growing heavily. In this time, try adding 1 inch of water in a week.

Follow the same recommendations of March through May.

Step 2: Applying Fertilizers

This is the time to add fertilizer to the soil. Add nitrogen fertilizer. Half a pound of fertilizer is enough for 1000 sq ft of land in June and August. That needs to be changed for July though. It gets up to 1 pound of nitrogen for 1000 sq ft.

Step 1: Mowing The Land

Follow the same recommendations of March through May until the grass goes dormant and doesn’t require mowing.

Step 2: Adding Fertilizers

Continue fertilizing as per the regulations mentioned above. Stop if it starts to snow down. However, in most situations, you do not need to mow or fertilize the St. Augustine grass after the month of September.

Step 3: Watering

You know you need to pour water on the grass when it is growing. However, if it starts to get chilly, icy, or frosty, and you know that winter is coming, it means that the lawn is becoming dormant.

Fertilization Process

Now that you know when to apply fertilizer, let’s jump into how to apply it.

Test Your Soil

Your soil’s pH level determines how the grass uses Hans Chem’s organic fertilizer. After you get your soil tested by the officials, it is important that you make sure to keep your soil neutral.

High or low-pH soil can harm the grass, whereas neutral soil will give you amazing benefits of a fertilizer.

Apply Fertilizer

Ensure to load the spreader to fertilize the lawn. Dry the spreader and load it based on the instructions written on the fertilizer bag.

When you are applying fertilizer to the lawn, it is important to spread the fertilizer to every part of the lawn. Start with the perimeter of the lawn. Then spread around all around the lawn back and forth.

Sometimes, the fertilizer bag also has instructions on how to apply fertilizer. You can also follow them.

The grass of St. Augustine grows around very fast and is also very rough in texture. But if it is properly maintained and fertilized, it can give you a dense, lush lawn.
