These are a good source of calcium, K, and even P, which are required for strengthening the cell walls and flower development. Plus, it breaks down slowly, which is good for supplying nutrients over an extended period. For a homemade fertilizer, only dry and crushed eggshells will be used to make sure no pathogens enter the soil.

Grass clippings

The grass is rich in Nitrogen, which means it would be good for addressing N deficiency in the soil. Moreover, when they are composted, they aid in improving soil fertility, aeration, and water retention capacities.

Coffee beans

It is another good source of macronutrients such as N, P, and K. Moreover, coffee beans are also rich in trace elements that are necessary for plant metabolism. As they add a bit of acidity to the compost, having them is good for acid-loving plants like magnolia. To have an acidic balance, only a small amount of it should be added

Fruit and vegetable scraps

Some fruits, such as Apples, are rich in Phosphorus, while Bananas have a high K-content. On the other hand, onions are a good choice for sulfur addition. So, having diverse primary and secondary macronutrients packed in compost can boost the overall nutrient content.

Epsom salt

It’s used in a homemade fertilizer because it’s a source of Mg and S, which plants require for photosynthetic processes. In addition to this, it aids in the bushier growth of plants.
