These are the substances that include the microorganisms. Just like the other fertilizers these are applied to the plant parts and soil surface. With the passage of time, the growth of plants is promoted using these fertilizers. These microbes provide the basic nutrients to the plants.

Microorganisms in biofertilizers

The biofertilizers can include microbes that are good for the soil as they provide nutrients to the soil. Following are the main microorganisms that are included within it that are:

  • Blue-green algae
  • Cyanobacteria
  • Mycorrhizal fungi
  • Bacteria

Biofertilizers work as growth promoters for the soil. There are many types of biofertilizers that affect plant growth in a positive way. From these fertilizer types, some of the most commonly used fertilizers with their applications are as follows:

  • Nitrogen-fixing biofertilizer with application mode 

Right after dispatching into the soil these are released and helpful for the nitrogen fixation. Most of these bacteria are also known due to their saprotrophic properties. Besides this, these are also classified into aerobic and anaerobic fertilizers. The inoculation of these fertilizers is effective for the crop’s production. All of these fertilizers are directly applied with the addition of organic fertilizers. These are promotive towards plant growth after their release in the soil. 

  • Rhizobia

It includes the rhizobia that promotes the symbiotic nitrogen within the roots. They fix the right quantity of the fertilizers. There are specific 7 genres of bacteria that are highly known for this. 

  • Azotobacter

These are free-living bacteria that can fix the Nitrogen within the alkaline and neutral soils. They have growth-promoting effects on plant life. Their role can be seen within the sugarcane, cotton, maize, and vegetables along with some plantations. These are highly recommended to use for the nonleguminous. 

  • Cyanobacteria 

These are the special numbers of the blue-green algae that are the free forms of the cyanobacteria. These are great sources to add up the nitrogen content to the soil. These are the prokaryotic organisms for supply the nutrients to the plants.

Seed inoculation application

Commonly this method is used for the safest insertion of the biofertilizers. In this method, the biofertilizers are mixed up with the jaggery solution which is 10%. Afterward, apply the small layer of this biofertilizer to the seeds. Leave the seeds overnight. However, it’s important to proceed with the right quantity of the biofertilizers.

Tuber inoculations technique

In most of the cases, the Azotobacter is used in this direct insertion method. The Azotobacter is added to the water tank. Afterward, these biofertilizers are directly used after proper mix-up. 

Root tip applications

These applications are directly involved with the development of the roots. The biofertilizers are inoculated with the fertilizers. Hereby, the biofertilizers are properly mixed up with the roots and then these seedlings are transplanted. This technique is highly useful for rice, flowers, onion, and tomato crops. 

Direct field application

This is the most useful method for the application of the biofertilizers. In this method, the biofertilizers are directly used after mixing with the compost. For the nutrient fill up the biofertilizers are also used before seedling. However, in the direct insertion of the biofertilizers, you need to use a high amount of it.

The biofertilizers are also included within the liquid fertilizer medium to introduce ease for the farmers. These are the best options for the higher plants. The carrier-based fertilizers have a high shelf-life. These are safe to use. Usually, these are dull white in color and appear like water. Their PH also ranges from 6.8 to 7.5. They can be easily applied over the plants in the form of a foliar spray or through the broadcasting method.

  • It introduces plant tolerance against the biotic and abiotic stressed conditions.
  • The right use of biofertilizers maintains the soil structure and texture. 
  • It improves the soil fertility level and makes agricultural practices more sustainable.
  • Additionally, it also adds up the growth-promoting substances in the soil. 
  • It also introduces better germination of the soil.

However, biofertilizers need proper attention to make it work. You must consider the right method and amount of fertilizers to add up in the soil.
